Research
Academic Research
McCord has become an established centre for research within South Africa and internationally. Over 20 research projects are currently in process and focus on investigating a spectrum of clinical, immunological, psycho-social and health economic facets of the HIV pandemic.
The McCord Research Ethics Committee (MREC) is a Level 1 ethics committee responsible for the independent review of all proposals for research at McCord.
Clinical Research
McCord is well positioned to offer the contract clinical research industry with an opportunity to reliably generate quality research data within agreed time frames. Preparations to host pharmaceutical sponsored contract clinical research at McCord have been completed. This has included training of staff, development of SOPs and identification of a principle investigator and sub investigators. This has been done in accordance with international requirements.
