RibbonMen aged 15 to 49 have until the 8th June 2012 to take advantage of McCord Hospital's free Male Medical Circumcision Clinic. The clinic, which opened its doors in February 2011 has been funded by the U.S. PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) program as part of a wider HIV prevention strategy. The clinic's current funding cycle comes to an end on the 30th June 2012 and so staff are in the process of winding down the service.

Male medical circumcision or "MMC" has a host of health benefits and has also been proven to reduce the risk of HIV infection by up to 60%. To date, McCord's MMC Clinic has circumcised over 4,200 men and plans to do as many as posisble in its last few days of operation.

Speaking this week of the clinic's closure, McCord CEO, Dr Helga Holst said "We are very grateful to PEPFAR for enabling us play a greater role in the fight against HIV through our MMC Clinic over the past 16 months. I urge all men who have not yet taken advantage of this free service to contact our clinic today!"

McCord's MMC Clinic will continue to offer free circumcision procedures up until the 8th June 2012. Thereafter the clinic will remain open until the 30th June 2012, but only to provide reviews for patients who have already had the procedure.

For more information and to book your circumcision, please call McCord's MMC Clinic on 031 209 3295, email: circumcision@mccord.co.za or visit us at 155 Brickfield Road, Overport, Durban.
